The faculty of drawing as a scientific and educational unit of Kyiv Art Institute (now the National Academy of Art and Architecture) was the first mentioned in 1934 when it was headed together with the faculty of painting by professor M. Sharonov, the pupil of a famous painter D. Kardovsky.
     Pre-war and the first post-war years were the years of formation, accumulation of valuable experience, search of methods of teaching drawing. Much in this direction had been done by such famous artists as professors: S. Grigoryev, K. Yeleva, S. Yerzhikovsky, F. Kirichevsky, O. Sirotenko, M. Sharonov and others.
     Such famous painters as V. Boldyrev, S. Grosh, K. Zaruba (the head of the faculty in the 60-s), S. Poderv'yansky (the head of the faculty in 1971-1977), O. Krivonys (the head of the faculty in 1977-1986) were invited during the post-war years. All of them became professors soon. Yu. Bondarenko has been the head of the faculty of drawing since 1986.
     Now the faculty of drawing has a general status and provides teaching of drawing at all faculties and departments of the National Academy of Art and Architecture.
     During almost 70 years valuable art-systematic fund with drawings of well-known Ukrainian artists of different years has been collected there. On the basis of this fund permanent exposition was organized and it is constantly being renewed.
     The activity of a class of drawing and the study of plastic anatomy help the personnel of the faculty to solve educational and methodological problems. The study of anatomy of a person is obligatory for students and is very important un teaching drawing because it is based on drawing nature (man, woman - dressed or naked, drawings of interior, still-lives etc.).
     The teachers of the faculty have worked out and have introduced into educational process a lot of different methods implementation of various tasks and jobs, sometimes rather complicated.
     The faculty is also conducting consulting-systematic work outside the Academy - in State secondary school of art by T. Shevchenko and secondary specialized art schools.
The faculty of drawing provides fulfillment of all tasks thanks to high professional level of the teachers of the Academy. Most of them are members of the National Union of artists of Ukraine, take part in many art exhibitions of different levels.
     The pedagogical personnel successfully uses the experience of older generations. Side by side with such well-known masters as professor, People's Artist of Ukraine P. Basanets, work professors, Honoured Art Workers V. Bistryakov, Yu. Bondarenko, professor, People's Artist of Ukraine S. Poderv'yansky, professors Yu. Khimitch, Yu Yatchenko; Honoured Art Workers, docents O. Bilyansky, S. Zoruk, V. Krizhanivsky, Y. Larionov, V. Nikitin, V. Sukhenko, L. Trubnikovawork as lectures; A. Tverdy, Z. Phedyk, T. Goncharenko are senior teachers of the faculty.
     Now there is a tendency of renovation of the personnel at the expense of young talented artists, graduates of magistracy such as senior teacher O. Mikhailitsky, teachers A. Gaidar, K. Gutnikova, Yu. Maistrenko.
     Teaching master G. Krivosheya, master of industrial education T. Miskovets, the head of the laboratory A. Trubnikov also help successful activity of the faculty. Co-ordination of the pedagogical staff provides the possibility of preservation and development of the best traditions of the faculty.
