The studio of the restoration of sculpture and works of decorative art was created in 1993. It was headed by the artist-restorator, assistant professor O. Minzhulin.
The studio trains experts-artist, restorators metal works, silicate and organic materials. The organization of the educational process is carried out according to the educational plan, on the grounds of the individual plans of each teacher where the themes of theoretical knowledge and the character of work at practical lessons are fixed.
During studying the students get practical skills on drawing and sculpture, theoretical knowledge on basic subjects - technique and technology of silicate materials, figurative metal processing, wood carving, technique and technology of easel and monumental painting, restoration of sculpture and works of decorative art from metal, stone, ceramics and glass, other related to the restoration subjects - special physics, special chemistry, special photography, optical and physical methods of research, microbiology. Besides, there are courses of the history and ethics of restoration, art criticism, iconography, heraldry.
Starting with the second year of studying students have practical restoration of the works of art.
The new technologies in the process of practical studying are used. The special agreements concerning practical works of teachers and students of the studio on the base of the National Museum of History in Ukraine, the National Scientific-Research Restoration Centre and the Institute of Archaeology were signed. The teachers can always have a chance to get information on new methodical workings out: there are exchange programmes with restoration institutions in Ukraine, Russia, the USA, France, Germany.
The teachers of the studio: V. Krapivin, L.Lugina, senior teacher I. Lastovkina, artist-restorator T. Kovalenko, artist-restorator G. Shyyanowa, artist-restorator T. Minzhulina. The books "Introduction to the restoration of metal", "Restoration of metal works" by O. Minzhulin, "Restoration of fabrics" by O. Minzhulin, T. Minzhulina, I. Chornokapska were published.
The teachers and the students take part in conferences on the questions of restoration works and make scientific reports.
All graduates of the studio work in different state restoration establishments and after graduation keep in touch with the chair and communicate with teacher and students.
More than 1600 works from different museums in Ukraine and Russia were restorated during the existence of the studio.
