The studio of landscape painting in the structure of the Ukrainian art academy, then the Kiev art institute (now the National academy of fine art and architecture) occupied an equal place among other studios of such genres as: portrait, historical-battle, mode of life. In different years M. Burachek, A. Manevych, G. Svitlytsky, I. Shtilman led the studio.
     The studio was liquidated at the end of the 50-th years, considering landscape painting non- political genre of art. It was restored under the direction of the professor V. Zabashta only in 1993 by the decision of the scientific council of the Ukrainian art academy. A consequence of the activity of the renewed studio has become that its apprentices now artists in landscape S. Butko, I. Melnychuk, O. Mishchenko, O. Morozova, Yu. Tatsko and others successfully work in the field of fine art.
     The senior lecturer O. Sheremet has headed the studio in November 2001. The professor V. Zabashta has become its leader, and the graduate of the academy A. Tsoi - its teacher.
     Creative creed of the educational-creative studio is to search ways of fast revival of national art, effective formation of new art tastes. The leadership of the studio aspires to connect the best methodological bases of world science in fine art to principles of free individual self-expression on a professional basis.
     Taking into account students' desire, the essence of the present tendencies in fine art, which are formed in conditions of qualitative changes in public life of Ukraine, the pedagogical collective considers expedient not to limit creative searches of the young artists only to landscape genre but to give the students an opportunity to try themselves also in a thematic picture, portrait, still-life.
     The general training of students is carried out in accordance with the program of the educational-creative studio, which, in its turn, meets the requirements of the educational program of the faculty of painting and composition. The program is based on realistic bases considering achievements of the best academic schools of the world and creative achievements of national fine art.
     One of the basic installations of the educational process is careful attention to individual opportunities of each student. Since the third year of studying students independently select a theme taking into account the level of their creative skills, understanding of the purpose and aesthetic views. Apprentices of the studio consistently learn all stages of the creation of a picture by finding sketches, foresketches, making a cardboard, painting studies, sketches, figures. The acquired skills help them to paint a small course picture in IVth year of studying, which is an original rehearsal before diploma work, and painting diploma picture itself.
     During training at the studio students take part in academic competitions, all-Ukrainian art exhibitions, collective and group students' opening days.
     The most capable graduates have an opportunity to continue training and to improve their skills in a postgraduate course of the academy.
