The professor V. Shatalin became the head of the educational-creative studio in 1969. It was called the studio of battle and historical painting then. After some time its creative orientation began to vary, in particular the range of diploma works extended to a marked degree through the application to modern subjects. It led to the changing of the name of the studio - it became the studio of easel painting. Nevertheless historical direction remained determining in the methods of educational process though it was considerably complemented by problems of the present.
     The creative creed of the teachers is continuation and development of high art traditions of realistic, academic school, certainly, in view of achievements of world art. The basic principle of educational process at the studio is individual work with apprentices, development of their creative abilities.
     The professor O. Basanets works at the studio as an assistant. In certain time this post was occupied by now professor, people's artist of Ukraine, academician of the Academy of art of Ukraine M. Guyda who leads itself the separate educational-creative studio of easel painting nowadays.
     The graduates of V. Shatalin's studio have made the considerable contribution into the development of art of Ukraine. Not only well-known metropolitan artists, but also famous artists working in different cities of Ukraine and abroad are there among apprentices of the outstanding master in painting. They are, in particular, already mentioned M. Guyda, G. Atayan, V. Mashnytsky, T. Nedoshovenko, O. Poltavets-Guyda, L. Sotnyk, A. Tkach, M. Chorny, S. Shapovalova, O. Sheremet, A. Yaltynsky and others.
     Students actively participate in numerous competitions, all-Ukrainian and foreign exhibitions during their training at the studio. The most capable graduates continue the training doing assistance-probationer course, which works at the faculty of painting and composition of NAFAA.
