Educational - creative studio "Book arts (design and introligation)" emanated from the studio of book graphics by the initiative of the professor V. Chebanik who headed it in 1993. In December 2001 this studio entered as a separate unit into the department of graphic design of the National Academy of Art and Architecture.
     The main task of the studio is to train artists, who will assist further revival of artistic traditions of ukrainian manuscript and printed books.
     The principles of teaching are based on studying and use of old and modern technologies, both traditional (wood, leather, flax) and modern materials (cardboard, wood, leather, plastics, metal).
     Modern technologies of electronic and machine publication make it possible for one or some artists to create a book as a piece of art in the only copy or in small circulation.
     The principal task of this studio is the creation of new exclusive artistic samples of books.
     Acquired knowledge and experience of the graduates of the studio can be used in practical work at different state offices as there still exist a lot of problems concerning preservation and restoration of a large quantity of books.
