The Faculty of Architecture

The chair of architectural constructions

The head - senior lecturer Ya.V.Korytniuk

The chair of architectural constructions as a separate structural division of the faculty of architecture was founded in 1959. Its main task is to provide general educational and technical-engineering training of the architectural staff.
Before the establishment of the chair as an independent unit the training on construction disciplines was in the competence of the only chair of architectural designing at the faculty. Outstanding, later world-famous scientists and engineers were involved for teaching engineering disciplines at the faculty at that time: mathematics - academicians of the Academy of sciences of Ukraine D. Grave and Yu. Sokolov; the professors-engineers B. Gorbunov, S. Kolotov, O. Pykovsky, N. Syminsky, N. Stolyarov, P. Khaustov.
In the post war years a set of the students to the architectural faculty considerably increased because of sharp increase of volumes of construction. It required expansion in pedagogical structure that caused opening of new separate chair of architectural constructions. The doctor in engineering science, professor V. Chudnovsky was its first head till 1976. The regular teachers A. Meyer and O. Rakovitsan, teachers in combination - O. Grachov, A. Dekhtyar, F. Zemsky, M. Onyshchenko, G. Ternovsky worked at the chair at that time.
The known engineer - designer, candidate in engineering science, senior lecturer O. Pechenov headed the chair in 1977-1984. The candidate in engineering science, the senior lecturer Ya. Korytniuk has been heading the chair since 1984.
The chair has highly skilled teachers nowadays who are famous scientists and, at the same time, skilled practising experts and scientists with significant practical and pedagogical experience. Thus the regular teachers A. Dekhtyar, doctor in engineering science, professor, winner of the State premium; O. Vyshegorodska, candidate in engineering science, senior lecturer; L. Dmytriyev, candidate in engineering science; Ya. Korytniuk, candidate in engineering science, senior lecturer; O. Rozdorozhniuk, candidate in architecture, senior lecturer; N. Trofymovych, candidate in engineering science, senior lecturer, and also 5 teachers working in combination. All teachers of the chair have a scientific degree of the doctor or candidate in sciences.
16 subjects are taught at the chair, that is about 35 percent of general load of the student. The basic educational disciplines are building constructions, engineering equipment, building physics, economy and organization of construction.
The faculty works by the typical educational plan of preparation of architects. Programs, methodical recommendations, cards of individual tasks on performance of the course and educational works are developed on all disciplines. The majority of such works is carried out in a complex, in the structure of architectural projects, and others - on the basis of these projects, with the maximal approximation to real designing.
The educational-methodical study works at the chair and provides the students with necessary normative materials, methodical instructions and manuals. The exhibition of the best students' works is always there on display. The exhibiting of samples of building materials, units, mock-ups, details of buildings and engineering equipment in the audiences of the chair has significant importance from the point of view of methodical maintenance of educational process. Posters, complete sets of slides are used in the teaching work. Studies with going out to building platforms and enterprises of building industry are practised.
The teachers of the chair actively participate in national, regional and international forums on architecture and building, publish their works in the scientific academic and specialized editions.
