The arms of the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture

   Stylized graphical representation of the Syryn bird, situated in a field of the heraldic baroque shield, is the base and the centre of the arms. Syryn is a fantastic bird with the woman's head. According to folk superstition, Syryn is a prophetic bird which knows the past and the future and can look into the most mysterious corners of the universe. Syryn, as well as another mythical bird Phoenix, is undestroyable because every time it revives from the ash. Syryn is portrayed with outstretched wings and a look turned to a spectator. It has a gold colouring which symbolizes nobleness and greatness.
     The shield where golden Syryn is portrayed has crimson colour (heraldic name - violet). Baroque form of a shield is unaccidental. Baroque, presented in arms by called form, is the most characteristic creative direction and period for the history of Ukrainian culture. The golden sun, situated above the shield, symbolizes the stream of knowledge and skill, educational character of Ukrainian Fine Arts Academy (now NAFAA).
     The shield with the portrayal of Syryn is surrounded by a wreath (with laurel and oak leaves), wraped up with a ribbon with a legend "Ukrainian Academy of Fine Arts". The wreath has bright green colouring which symbolizes life, wealth and undestruction of talent and creation. The ribbon with the legend is winded around the wreath, exterior side of the ribbon has a white colour, back side has a blue colour.
     Artistic solution of the arms was made as diploma work by the graduate of the faculty of graphic arts Olexy V. Karpenko in 1997.
