Was born in Kharkiv, on 13 November, 1925.
Art-critic. The full member of the Academy of High School in Ukraine, tne Academy of Art of Ukraine, Doctor of art-criticism, Honoured Art Worker of Ukraine, the member of the National Artists Union in Ukraine. Graduated from the department of linguistic in Kyiv State University after T. Shevchenko. Worked as a scientific researcher in Kyiv State Museum of Ukrainian Art from 1949 till 1966. Investigates the history of Ukrainian art from the age of Kyiv Rus till baroque, problems, connected with the definition of the development and stage-style challenge. Made contribution into the attribution of works of ancient Ukrainian art and introduction them into the scientific circulation. Author and co-author of more than 180 scientific works. Scientific editions: "K. Trutovsky" (1955), "Paintings of Potelych" (1969-1971 - russian language), "Ukrainian Art of the XIV - the first half of the XVII-th centuries" (co-author, 1974), "The Ukrainian Icon of the XI-th - XVIII-th centuries from Byzante to Baroque" (1966), "Easel painting" (co-author, in the book "The history of Ukrainian Art", volume 1, 1966), "Ukrainian Art in the first half of the XVII-th - XVIII-th centuries" (in the book "History of Art in the USSR countries", volume 3, 1974, volume 4, 1976). Has been working in the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture since 1962 (the chaire of the history and theory of art). Teaches courses on the history of ancient Ukrainian and Russian art. Since 1990-professor.
