Was born in Gorodnya town, Chernigiv Region on 12, October, 1925.
Painter. The Full Member of the Academy of Art in Ukraine, the Corresponding Member of the Academy of Art in USSR, Peoples Artist of Ukraine, honoured Art Worker of Poland, Gold Prize Winner in Ukraine after T. Shevchenko, the Member of the National Artists Union in Ukraine. was the deputy chief of the board of the Artists Union in Ukraine (1962-1968), chief of the board (1983-1989). World War II veteran.
Graduated from Kyiv Fine Arts Institute in 1953, the post-graduates department in 1957. Teachers - S. Grygoryev, K. Yeleva, O. Shovkunenko.
Made a big contribution into the development of Ukrainian thematic picture, reflecting heroic events and images from the time of the World War II, national history, bible subjects. His works are notable for professional solution of multifigure composition, acuteness of psychological characteristics of the characters, thirst for monumentalism, epicism, symbolic and allegoric language. Pays much attention to the portraits, which expose the essence of the human nature. Lyrical motifs dominate in many landscapes and still-lives.

Was a Rector of the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (1973-1975), since 1979 - professor, since 1973 - the chief of the educational-creative studio of easel painting.
