The National Academy of Fine Art and Architecture - the higher educational institution of the 4th level of accreditation

 
 


   T
he National academy of fine art and architecture takes its birth from the Ukrainian art academy which was founded in 1917 on the initiative of the prominent figures in culture, science and art, namely the first President of Ukraine, academician Mykhailo Grushevsky; scientists D.Antonovych and G.Pavlutsky; artists V.Krychevsky, F.Krychevsky, G.Narbut, V.Boychuk, O.Murashko, M.Burachek, M.Zhuk, A.Manevych.
    During the time of its existence the educational institution has trained more than 7 thousand painters, sculptors, specialists in graphic arts, restorers, architects, art critics. The works of the graduates from the Academy form the basis of many expositions in the museums and galleries of Ukraine. There are many prominent artists among its graduates whose works took recognition not only in Ukraine but abroad. The creative activity of P.Biletsky, V.Boroday, M.Vronsky, T.Golembiyevska, S.Grygoriev, V.Gurin, O.Danchenko, K.Yeleva, V.Zabolotny, O.Kovalev, V.Kostetsky, O.Lopukhov, G.Melikhov, F.Nirod, O.Oliynyk, I.Padalka, O.Pashchenko, A.Plamenytsky, V.Puzyrkov, V.Sedlyar, I.Selivanov, M.Storozhenko, M.Khmelko, A.Chebykin, V.Chekanyuk, V.Chepelyk, V.Shatalin, T.Yablonska, G.Yakutovych and many others became heritage of the Ukrainian national culture.
    Structurally the National academy of fine art and architecture has faculties of:

  1. The faculties of fine arts (dean - merited artist of Ukraine, the corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine, the head of the graphic arts chair, professor V.K.Shostya) which trains specialists in painting, graphics and graphic design department, sculpture, theatre-decorative art Chebykin, restoration of art works.

  2. The theory and history of fine art faculty (dean - reader V.V.Dzhulay). Specializations: art criticism - theory and history of fine art and art criticism - organization and management of the development of art culture (art critic-manager). The specialization art criticism - theory and history of fine art (the faculty of the theory and history of fine arts) can be obtained both in day form of studying and by correspondence. Those who work on speciality have preferences while entering the department of studying by correspondence of the academy, and 20% of planned seats are taken by those who work on other specialities on the results of competition.

  3. Architectural faculty (dean - doctor in technical sciences, the corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine, the head of the chair of the theory and history of architecture and synthesis of arts, professor M.I.Yakovlev).
    The whole term of studies is 5 years and 6 months for all creative specialities and specializations; 5 years - for specializations of the theory and history of fine art faculty (day form of studies); 6 years - for the specialization art criticism - theory and history of fine art (studying by correspondence).

     Leavers of another towns are provided with a hostel.
     To obtain the permission to pass entering exams to the Academy one should hand in his home art woks taken from life together with his documents. Those who enter the faculties of painting and graphic arts bring works on painting, drawing and composition; for the sculptural faculty - drawings, original sculptural works or their photos; for the architectural faculty - painting in watercolour and drawings. The commission on reception gives a permit to pass entrance examinations on speciality on the results of the appraisal of the homeworks.
    The Academy trains specialists providing educational-qualification levels of Bachelor, Specialist, and Master.

    1. Speciality "Fine and decorative applied arts"

Specializations: "Easel painting", "Monumental painting"
Qualification - Specialist: painter-artist, artist in monumental painting.
Specializations: "Free graphics", "Graphics: decorative book design and book illustrations"
Qualification - Specialist: artist in graphics, artist in graphics on decorative book design and book illustrations.
Qualification - Master: painter-artist, researcher, teacher; artist in monumental painting, researcher, teacher; artist in graphics, researcher, teacher; artist in graphics on decorative book design and book illustrations, researcher, teacher.

Competitive examinations on speciality:

  1. Painting: Study of nude human trunk; term of execution - 24 hours (4 hours a day during 6 days); materials: canvas, oil (graphics may use paper, watercolour, gouache, tempera according to their desire); size - no more than 100 centimetres by its longer side.

  2. Drawing: nude human figure taken from the model; term of execution - 14 hours (2 hours a day during 4 days and 3 hours a day during 2 days); materials: paper, pencil; size - a half of standard sheet of paper.

  3. Composition - Specializations: "Easel painting", "Monumental painting":
    Task 1: sketch in colour on free subject. Task 2: sketch on the set subject.

  4. Composition - Specializations: "Free graphics", "Graphics: decorative book design and book illustrations"

Task 1: sketch on free subject. Task 2: sketch on the set subject.
Term of execution for each task on composition - 6 hours (one day); materials: by the choice of a leaver; size - no more than 50 centimetres by its longer side.

    2. Speciality "Fine and decorative applied arts"

Specialization: "Graphics: graphic design"
Qualification - Specialist: graphic designer - artist
Qualification - Master: graphic designer - artist, researcher, teacher.
Competitive examinations on speciality:

  1. Painting: Study of nude human trunk; term of execution - 24 hours (4 hours a day during 6 days); materials: canvas, oil, paper, watercolour; size - no more than 100 centimetres by its longer side.

  2. Drawing: nude human figure taken from the model; term of execution - 14 hours (2 hours a day during 4 days and 3 hours a day during 2 days); materials: paper, pencil; size - a half of standard sheet of paper.

  3. Composition: Task 1: sketch on the set subject; term of execution - 6 hours (one day); materials: by the choice of a leaver; size - no more than 50 centimetres by its longer side. Task 2: sketch of the decorative composition on the set subject; term of execution - 6 hours (one day); materials and technique of execution: by the choice of a leaver; size - no more than 60 centimetres by its longer side.

3. Speciality "Fine and decorative applied arts"

Specialization: "Easel and monumental sculpture"
Qualification - Specialist: sculptor-artist.
Qualification - Master: sculptor-artist, researcher, teacher.
Competitive examinations on speciality:
1. Sculpture: Study of nude human trunk taken from the model; round sculpture; term of execution - 24 hours (4 hours a day during 6 days); materials: clay; size - no more than 100 centimetres.
2. Drawing: nude human figure taken from the model; term of execution - 14 hours (2 hours a day during 4 days and 3 hours a day during 2 days); materials: paper, pencil; size - a half of standard sheet of paper.
3. Composition:
Task 1: sketch on free subject; round sculpture. Task 2: sketch on the set subject; round sculpture.
Term of execution for each task on composition - 6 hours (one day); materials: clay, modelling wax; size - no more than 30 centimetres.
4. Speciality "Fine and decorative applied arts"
Specializations: "Theatre-decorative painting", "Cinema and stage design"
Qualification - Specialist: artist of the theatre; artist of the cinema and television films.
Qualification - Master: artist of the theatre, researcher, teacher; artist of the cinema and television films, researcher, teacher.
Competitive examinations on speciality:
1. Painting: Study of nude human trunk; term of execution - 24 hours (4 hours a day during 6 days); materials: canvas, oil, paper, water-colour, gouache, tempera; size - no more than 100 centimetres by its longer side.
2. Drawing: nude human figure taken from the model; term of execution - 14 hours (2 hours a day during 4 days and 3 hours a day during 2 days); materials: paper, pencil; size - a half of standard sheet of paper.
3. Composition:
Task 1: sketch of the theatrical composition; term of execution - 6 hours (one day); materials: paper, cardboard, watercolour, gouache, tempera; size - no more than 50 centimetres by its longer side. The task is to offer an easy art decoration of one place of the action of the theatre performance in colour: a fairy tale staging, vaudeville, drama - an easy laconic image with taking into consideration the mise en scenes on the stage. Dimensions of the stage mirror: height - 7 meters, width - 10 meters, depth - 10 meters. One or several figures of the characters should be depicted in the sketch to make it possible to proportion their size with the dimensions of the decorative details of the stage. Task 2: sketch on the set subject; term of execution - 6 hours (one day); materials: by the choice of a leaver; size - no more than 50 centimetres by its longer side.
5. Speciality "Restoration of art works"
Specialization: "Restoration of art works of easel and monumental painting".
Qualification - Specialist: artist-restaurateur of works of easel and monumental painting.
Competitive examinations on speciality:
1. Painting: Study of nude human trunk; term of execution - 24 hours (4 hours a day during 6 days); materials: canvas, oil, paper, watercolour; size - no more than 100 centimetres by its longer side.
2. Drawing: nude human figure taken from the model; term of execution - 14 hours (2 hours a day during 4 days and 3 hours a day during 2 days); materials: paper, pencil; size - a half of standard sheet of paper.
3. Copying: Making copy of a simple still life; term of execution - 12 hours (6 hours a day during 2 days); materials: canvas, oil; size - 40x50 centimetres. (Required: the most precise reflection of the image, manner of technique and execution, texture of the painting).
4. Composition: sketch in colour on free subject; term of execution - 6 hours (one day); materials: by the choice of a leaver; size - no more than 50 centimetres by its longer side.
Specialization: "Restoration of sculpture and works of decorative applied modification in metal, stone, ceramics and glass"
Qualification - Specialist: artist-restaurateur of sculpture and works of decorative applied modification in metal, stone, ceramics and glass.
Competitive examinations on speciality:
1. Sculpture: Study of nude human trunk taken from the model; round sculpture; term of execution - 24 hours (4 hours a day during 6 days); materials: clay; size - no more than 100 centimetres.
2. Drawing: nude human figure taken from the model; term of execution - 14 hours (2 hours a day during 4 days and 3 hours a day during 2 days); materials: paper, pencil; size - a half of standard sheet of paper.
3. The copying of the classical relief: term of execution - 12 hours (6 hours a day during 2 days); materials: clay; size - no more than 100 centimetres by its longer side.
4. Composition: sketch on free subject; round sculpture; term of execution - 6 hours (one day); materials: clay, modelling wax; size - no more than 30 centimetres.
6. Speciality "Architecture of buildings and constructions "
Specialization: "Architecture of buildings and constructions"
Qualification - Bachelor: architect - executor
Qualification - Specialist: architect - artist
Qualification - Master: architect - artist, researcher, teacher.
Competitive examinations on speciality:
1. Painting: still life; term of execution - 12 hours (4 hours a day during 3 days); materials: paper, watercolour; size - a half of standard sheet of paper.
2. Drawing: the drawing of a plaster head; term of execution - 12 hours (3 hours a day during 4 days); materials: paper, pencil; size - a half of standard sheet of paper.
3. Composition: 1 stage - making a volumetric composition from geometrical forms; 2 stage - graphic execution of the composition in the form of a sketch; term of execution - 7 hours (one day); materials: paper, pencil, water-colour, Indian ink, pen, water-colour pens; size - a half of standard sheet of paper.
4. Drawing: drawing of the detail in ortogonical projections; term of execution - 7 hours (one day); 1 stage - making a sketch of the model; 2 stage - the execution of the fair copy of the drawing; materials: paper, Indian ink, pencil; size - size A3 (297x420 millimetres).
7. Speciality "Fine and decorative applied arts"
Specialization: "Art criticism (theory and history of fine art)"
Qualification - Specialist: expert in Fine Arts, art critic
Qualification - Master: expert in fine art, art critic, teacher.
Competitive examinations on speciality:
1. The history of fine art according to the programme of the entrance examinations (in writing);
2. The history of fine art according to the programme of the entrance examinations (orally);
3. The Ukrainian language and literature according to the programme of the secondary school (composition);
4. The Ukrainian language according to the programme of the secondary school (orally).
Specialization: "Art criticism (organization and management of the development of art culture)"
Qualification - Specialist: expert in fine art, manager
Qualification - Master: expert in fine art, manager, teacher.
Competitive examinations on speciality:
1. The history of fine art according to the programme of the entrance examinations (in writing);
2. The history of fine art according to the programme of the entrance examinations (orally);
3. The Ukrainian language and literature according to the programme of the secondary school (composition);
4. The foreign language according to the programme of the secondary school (orally).
Those who pass examinations on speciality on the faculties of painting, graphics and architecture are not provided with materials; the entrants of the sculptural faculty are provided with clay and frameworks for modelling.
Besides the examinations on speciality entrants should pass the compulsory competitive examination on the Ukrainian language according to the programme of the secondary school for all specializations. The entrants certificated in the Ukrainian language pass it by writing composition or dictation, and the uncertificated ones write composition (or dictation) in Russian.
The entrants rewarded by school with gold (silver) medal or graduated prom the professional training schools with honours, pass the examinations on speciality. Having gained the highest mark "5", they enter the Academy without further exams, having got "4"or "3" they take part in the general competition.
